I don’t know if I will really become the ‘King of the King’. Zack Greinke, a former Cy Young Award winner (2009 American League) and famous as a former teammate of Ryu Hyun-jin, is having a very difficult season.
Kansas City Royals Greinke started the 2023 Major League Pittsburgh Pirates game held at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, USA on the 29th (Korean time).
Greinke threw 76 pitches in 4⅔innings, giving up 6 hits, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts and 2 runs. He couldn’t prevent his team from losing 0-5. With 1 win and 13 losses, the average ERA for the season was lowered from 5.34 to 5.28.
With the defeat on this day, Greinke tied for second place in league losses. Coincidentally, teammate Jordan Lyles (3-15) ranked first. As for the win rate, Greinke is by far the last.먹튀검증
Greinke struggled from the first episode. He allowed a hit to Korean big leaguer Bae Ji-hwan, who came out as the lead batter in the top of the first inning. He was hit in a row by Ke Brian Hayes. He induced a shortstop grounder to Andrew McCutchen on 1st and 2nd base. He led a byeongsalta. In the second out and third base, he blocked Joshua Palacios with a ground ball to first base, barely avoiding a run.
However, in the second inning, the first point was eventually taken away.
He gave up a hit to Andy Rodriguez, a walk to Jack Swinsky, and a walk to Lee Over Peguero. He brought himself into a crisis with no safe and full bases. He showed off his crisis management skills by pulling out a double blow against Alfonso Rivas again. Exchanged 2 outcounts and 1 point. In the ensuing 2nd and 3rd base, Arika Williams was treated as a floating ball in right field.
Greinke faced Bae Ji-hwan again in the beginning of the 3rd inning. Leading batter Bae Ji-hwan hit a double. Hayes allowed a double and lost the second run. Second base continued unscathed, but Greinke blocked McCutchen, Palacios, and Rodriguez with consecutive hits to minimize runs.
Greinke passed the 4th inning with a tripartite. Even in the top of the 5th inning, Williams and Bae Ji-hwan were eliminated with ground balls. He appeared to have settled down, putting out eight batters in a row.
However, he was hit by Hayes with five innings in front of him. With 2 out on first base, the Kansas City bench seemed to have run out of patience. Greinke had only 76 pitches, but he switched pitchers here. Sending out a runner after 2 outs in the 4th inning with a difference of 2 points and being beaten up is a humiliation unimaginable if you were Greinke of yesteryear. Greinke’s earned runs did not increase as reliever Tucker Davidson blocked McCutchen.
Greinke debuted in Kansas City in 2004. He won the American League Cy Young Award in 2009 with a Kansas City uniform. He has since returned to his parents’ home in 2022 via the Milwaukee Brewers, LA Angels, LA Dodgers, Arizona Diamondbacks and Houston Astros. He accepted the worst record of his career this year, showing that his retirement is near.
