Spencer Strider, 25, of the Atlanta Braves, has set a new major league record for pace, breaking the mark he set last year.

Atlanta hosted the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Truiste Park in Atlanta, Georgia, on April 2 (ET).

On the mound for Atlanta, Strider threw 110 pitches (74 for strikes) over 6 2/3 innings, allowing one run on five hits and striking out nine.

Strider became the first pitcher to eclipse the 200-strikeout mark. Reached 200 strikeouts with a swinging strikeout of Shohei Ohtani (29) with the bases loaded in the first inning.스포츠토토

Strider’s strikeout of Ohtani was his 123rd in 123 1/3 innings. 200 strikeouts in 123 1/3 innings. That’s a major league record.

Strider previously set the mark last year with 200 strikeouts in 130 innings. He surpassed that mark in one year.

Strider then added eight more strikeouts, effectively shutting down the Angels’ bats until the bottom of the seventh inning. Ohtani was limited to one hit off Strider.

Atlanta went on to win 5-1 behind Strider’s shutout, a multi-hit game from Michael Harris II, and a game-winning two-run homer from Orlando Arcia.

Strider had pitched 129 2/3 innings in 22 games this season, going 12-3 with a 3.61 ERA. He has 208 strikeouts. He’s currently on pace for 320.

Despite his high ERA, his strikeout numbers have him in the conversation for the Cy Young Award. However, he will need an ERA in the low 3s to win the award.
